i'm sure you will do a good job of covering the basic questions

1) but one thing i would like asked is what he thinks of the house dancers today, and about the slowly (or faster then percieved) commercialization of house dance.

2) can someone be a "real" house dancer if they don't jack (ie all footwork)

3) is house still the same as when he first got into it. if not, then what direction is it going in right now and how does he feel about it?

thats all for now.

1) How does he feel about people incoorporating Bboying and even poppin into House??

i can't speak for poppin (as far as i know..there is no "hitting" in house dance)

but i can tell you bboying is definitely incoportaed into house

for example the 3way/shuffles (brian actually teaches this and even says its borrowed from bboying)

it's still a good question to ask, just thought ill throw some info out there

house actually borrows from many styles...a lot of stuff you see in house didn't just overnight become house...well i think thats pretyt much dance in general. it all overlaps, we just do the same shizzle with a different twist or technique/flow behind it.

question for Brian:

1) What advice do you have for the new generation of house dancers?

another one:

2) In your opinion; what makes a house dancer a "house dancer"?

Whats up yall dope to see a new board out here. Just wanted to add my 2 cents to the shuffle. The shuffle is actually from lindy hop from the swing dance era house got it from swing not the bboy scene. Bboys do the same step yes but house scene did not get it from the bboy scene it came before that. When Brian teaches it he relates it to bboy top rocks because thats what most of us younger kids can relate too but he doesnt say house got it from the bboys.
Dont mean to step on any toes Vinh your the man and I mean that!! haha we'll get down soon brother man.

peace yall
Odie
Ps love what your doing with your SD house practices keep up the great work

HAhah i know a little late but I would to correct myself when at all possible. And my last comment has been reviewed and brought to my attention that I may be a lil off on what im putting out.
Now about the shuffles they did do shuffles in Lindy and the step is even older then that which makes sense. But seeing it in the house culture may of been influenced from the bboys because most of the famous dancers we look up to today came from a hiphop background before they were in the house scene. As for Lindy it was Brian and his partner Spanky ( i believe correct me if im wrong) that were incorporating lindy and flipping it into the house scene in 91. So as for steps they can come from a lot of different dance styles that have existed before house dance but in the end we all have to arms and two leggs so similar things happen a lot when we dance.
Just needed to put that out there.
thanks

People,
GOD BLESS ALL!! It's Brian Green here. If you have any questions, just ask. I was on a spiritual fast this year, and getting things together. This is important for all to do at one point in their life ( or maybe more than one point! DEPENDS ON YOU!!).
Thanks ODIE for doing your best to give info, as well as being honest when you have made a mistake and don't know something. Learn from this people, because being honest is a great thing to be. In this life, it's hard, because we are taught to lie for a cause, but be honest. In the end, it's better.
As far as the LINDY HOP comment. I definitely told Odie that that wasn't true, but, he gave his knowledge, and this is fine. It's what he felt, and what we feel is valid in life. What is in history of something is not so valid if we are not there in that history. So, in the history of House, that step definitely comes from BBOYING!! IN the field of using LINDY steps, it was definitely done in Hip-hop social dances, and in House, it was done by my partner and I Chris Sawyer, not Spanky.
Any other questions people, let me know.

GOD BLESS ALL and KEEP DANCING,

Brian

Also,
We have to remember here, with most of the names mentioned in this forum in house from NY!! Most of those people come from the 80s Hip-hop era, then into House. THey brought alot of the steps they did in Hip-hop there; as for them it's an evolution/connection of the HIp-hop culture. House and Hip-hop's major connection for people is the music DISCO and FUNK; which is a base for Hip-hop and House music. The dances can change, depending on the person. But for what is popular about " House dance ", this is the main origin and reason for many steps you see. But there are others ( like myself and others in NY) that come from other backgrounds in the streets, and other knowledge in dance, that has contributed to this House scene.

GOD BLESS ALL and KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS,

BRian

Whats up!?! Good to see you on these boards Sensei Green.. haha anyways im a youngster in this scene most of what i know is from speaking with the ones who came before me. I may remember information incorrectly and that is of someone else's memory of how things were so obvisously theres plenty of room for error but its important for us younger kats to seek this knowledge and be able to know when were wrong =)
Glad to see us discussing but even better to see us dancing.
take it easy
Odie
